Ingredients:
- Filet Mignon (duh... I cooked two 8 oz filets)
- Montreal Steak Seasoning (McCormick's, I used the low sodium version)
- Olive Oil
Directions:
- Unwrap steaks from store packaging and dry each side with a paper towel.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of Montreal Steak Seasoning on each side of the filet and press lightly with palm of hand into the meat
- Marinade in Olive Oil in an air tight container for 45 minutes, then flip and do the same to the other side for 45 minutes. The Montreal Steak Seasoning should mostly stick to the steak.
- I have a basket-style air fryer by COSORI. I spray the air fryer basket with Olive Oil to prevent sticking. If your air fryer uses a wire tray-style basket instead, you should also spray it with a light coat of olive oil.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400F for 5 minutes.
- Set steak in air fryer basket and cook at 400F for a total of ten minutes for medium/medium-rare. At the six minute mark flip steak over for even cooking.
- After 10 minutes at 400F, let the steak rest on a plate covered in tin foil for 10 minutes.
Detroit-Style Zip Sauce for Pairing:
There are a ridiculous number of recipes online for Detroit Zip Sauce that vary considerably. There is no universal "Zip Sauce" that Detroiters speak of, in my view. So, here is one variant that I think is pretty good... maybe a tad bit more balsamic vinegar than in some restaurants but you can adjust as needed.
Zip Sauce Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup water
- 1/4 Cup melted salted butter (half stick/4 tablespoons)
- 2 Tablespoons Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar (considering reducing to 1/2 Tablespoon)
- 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
- 1 Teaspoon Garlic Power
- 1 Teaspoon common Italian Seasoning Mix
Directions:
- Combine 1-7.
Enjoy!
